China's main stock index reached a record high Wednesday as analysts expected vibrations to rule the equity market in the coming days.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closed up 0.83 percent at 3,057.38 points, an all-time high while the Shenzhen Composite Index gained 1.36 percent to 805.68. The Shanghai and Shenzhen 300 Index of major companies rose 1.12 percent to 2,702.59.

Automobile shares contributed to the rise. The First Automobile Works surged 8.82 percent to 8.14 yuan while Chang'an Automobile was up 7.83 percent to 15.15 yuan.

Jiangxi Copper soared by its daily 10 percent limit to 19.83 yuan for the second day in a row after disclosing a plan to raise 4 billion yuan through a private share issue to buy assets from its parent company and develop mining resources.

The financial shares staged a mixed performance. The Pudong Development Bank increased 4.55 percent to 26.17 yuan and Shenzhen Development Bank gained 5.02 percent to 19.89 yuan.

But China Life, the country's biggest insurer dipped 0.72 percent to 34.16 yuan while its major rival Pingan Insurance fell by 1.49 percent to 45.1.

While confident that the market is a bullish one in the long term, the analysts expected the market to experience see-saws in the following days.

The room for further rise is very limited and structural risks remain, analysts with Shenyin Wanguo Securities said.

Tiantong Securities analysts agreed on the assessment, adding that a structural adjustment would continue.

Last month, the Shanghai Composite Index hit a then record high of 3,040.60 before plummeting nearly 9 percent, the largest daily fall in a decade.

China's listed firms were banned Tuesday to invest the proceeds from shares sales in securities as the regulators took measures to cool off the stock market fever.

The People's Bank of China, the central bank, announced a 0.27 percentage point interest rate rise at the weekend, but did not dampen the investors' enthusiasm. The Shanghai Composite Index gained nearly three percent Monday, followed by an increase of 0.59 percent on Tuesday.

SHANGHAI - Shanghai's city council has enacted China's first local law clearly defining sexual harassment and allowing victims to sue, state media said Friday.

The measure says harassment can include abuse conveyed verbally, in writing, or by pictures or cell phone text messaging, as well as actual physical contact, according to local newspapers and the Xinhua News Agency.

"Women victims have the right to complain to their employer or relevant departments. Relevant departments and employers must take necessary measures to prevent and stop sexual harassment toward women," Xinhua quoted the measure as saying.

The statute elaborates on vague language included in a law on the protection of women's rights passed by the national legislature in 2005. The lack of a clear definition of harassment had made it extremely difficult to pursue cases.

The measure also bans employers from barring female employees from getting married or becoming pregnant.

About 35,000 children aged 14 and below are injured or killed in road accidents each year in China, according to a recent survey.

The survey was released on Friday by the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at a seminar on childhood road safety. The seminar was sponsored by FedEx and co-hosted by the National Center of Chronic and Noncommunicable Disease Control and Prevention, CDC and Safe Kids China (SKC) as part of the United Nation's Global Road Safety Week.

The survey, which took three years, is the first comprehensive look at children involved in traffic accidents in China.

The study showed that almost half of the 3,763 children injured in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou from 2000 to 2004 were aged between 5 and 9. More than 90 percent of the accidents were caused by careless road crossing or violation of traffic rules.

In addition, it found that children were most often injured or killed in bad weather conditions on their way to and from school.

"The results of the study indicate that most road accidents involving children are preventable," said Wu Fan of the China CDC. "This relates to a series of factors, which require constant and intensive cooperation between different organizations."

Eddy Chan, senior vice-president of FedEx China, said China still has a long way to go in raising awareness of this issue.

"It is important to improve education in child pedestrian safety," he said.

Safety measures have intensified in recent years. China's road safety for children has improved partly due to FedEx and SKC's involvement, said Monica Cui, director of SKC.

A number of studies on traffic accidents in China, including studies conducted in Jiangxi and Zhejiang, were presented during the seminar. Representatives endorsed recent improvements on pedestrian safety and called for more government and social intervention.

Taiwan has made a decision that has shocked the Chinese people and the world.

Refusing to allow the 2008 Olympic torch to pass through the island on its 137,000-kilometer, 130-day route would leave an ugly stain on Olympic history.

The statement from the Taipei Olympic Committee on Thursday night was a political provocation aimed at the mainland and the international Olympic Movement.

Tsai Chen-wei, chairman of the Taipei Olympic Committee, said: "This route is a domestic route that constitutes an attempt to downgrade our sovereignty. It is something that the government and people cannot accept."

This is an interesting statement worthy of some examination.

Taiwan is a province of China, not a sovereign state.

Telling the world that it will keep the 2008 Olympic torch off the island, Taiwan has gone back on its word.

In February, the Taipei Olympic Committee reached a consensus with the Beijing Olympics organizing committee on several issues, including where the torch will arrive on the island and where it will leave.

In addition, Tsai Chen-wei vowed that Taiwan will respect the Olympic spirit, uphold the Olympic Charter, ensure the smooth launch of activities on the island and take care of issues regarding songs and a logo.

All of a sudden, Taiwan rejected the route of the relay, insisting that the torch should arrive on the island during the international part of the relay rather than the domestic part.

The torch relay route that was made public in Beijing on Thursday night was arranged in conformity with the Olympic Charter.

Turning down the torch, Taiwan is trying to bring politics into sport. The Olympic Games should not be used as a political tool in order to garner publicity for a particular cause.

The Olympics is said to have been founded in ancient Greece by the mythical hero Hercules. So important were these games that even conflicts between the always-warring Greek cities were halted. During the truce, both athletes and spectators traveled freely through hostile lands. That was part of the efforts to depoliticize the games.

Let's uphold the spirit of the Olympic Charter and keep politics out of the Olympics.
Last night, the BOCOG announced the planned route of the Beijing Olympic Games torch relay, which had been approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and the arrangement of the route strictly follows the Olympic Charter and the relevant rules and regulations of the IOC.

The BOCOG has learned from media reports that Taiwan authorities and the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee said that they could not accept the planned route of the 2008 Beijing Olympics torch relay and we are surprised.

The relay of the 2008 Olympic torch in Taipei has been keenly anticipated by our compatriots in Taiwan. They have expressed their wishes to the BOCOG in different ways. During our preparations for the Games, we deeply feel our Taiwan compatriots are looking forward to the torch relay in Taipei as they support Olympic venue construction and participate in Olympic cultural activities.

In November 2006, the BOCOG sent out invitations to Olympic committees, under whose jurisdiction the planned route will pass, including the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee.

On December 28, 2006, Mr Tsai Chen-wei, chairman of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, replied in a letter that they accepted the invitation. The letter said: "On behalf of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, I would like to confirm that the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee is willing to participate in the Beijing Olympic Games torch relay and looking forward to close cooperation with the BOCOG in the future to fulfill the sacred task of passing the Olympic flame in accordance with the Olympic spirit and Olympic principles."

In February this year, a four-member delegation met with the BOCOG in Beijing and reached four points of consensus. The four points are as follows:

1. Both parties are committed to abiding by the regulations, resolutions and practice of the IOC and together preserving the purity and sanctity of the Olympic torch relay and Olympic flame.

2.The Beijing Olympic Games torch relay is an important part of the Beijing Olympic Games. Just like the Games, the relay must follow the Olympic Charter.

3. The Beijing Olympic Games torch relay passing Taipei is a sport and cultural activity carried out within the jurisdiction of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee. The Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee will ensure that the torch relay is conducted smoothly under its jurisdiction.

4. When the torch relay is conducted under the jurisdiction of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, the use of relevant flags, emblems and songs should strictly follows the relevant regulations of the IOC.

At the same time, the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee is obliged to coordinate all concerned parties to ensure any flags, emblems and songs which are inconsistent with IOC regulations won't be used during the torch relay.

On March 27, 2007, Mr Tsai sent a letter to the BOCOG to confirm the following arrangements: the Taipei leg of the Beijing Games torch relay will take place on April 30, 2008; the Olympic flame will fly from Ho Chi Minh City to Taipei and leave for Hong Kong on May 1 after the relay ends in Taipei.

In a signed confirmation letter addressed to the BOCOG, Mr Tsai said: "On behalf of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, I would like to confirm the reaching of consensus between the BOCOG and us in our meeting, as well as to confirm the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games torch relay route concerning the Taipei leg (as shown on Page 3 in the 2008 Olympic Games torch relay documents). I believe that with further planning and consultation between the two parties, the torch relay will be conducted successfully in Taipei and it will leave a perfect record."

On April 12, the BOCOG sent an invitation to Mr Tsai to attend the launch ceremony of the route for the 2008 Olympic torch relay. On April 14, BOCOG Executive Vice-President Liu Jingmin received a letter from Tsai in which he says, "We have received your invitation letter on April 12, the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee is honored and delighted that Taipei is included on the 2008 Olympic torch relay route and that Taiwan compatriots will have opportunities to share the enthusiasm and joy of Olympic flame. It is the outcome of the joint efforts by both sides and is very much anticipated and cherished. I myself again extend sincere respect and gratitude to you, my brother, and to your colleagues in the organizing committee for your hard work and contributions. However, I would not be available for the event because it clashes with my schedule. I apologize for my absence and hope that I could visit Beijing at another date to meet with you and celebrate together such an inspiring and historical moment. Hereby I wish the launch a complete success."

Hereafter, the IOC approved the planned route for the Beijing Olympic torch relay.

Then Mr Tsai wrote a letter to the BOCOG on April 20, saying, "The current evolution of many issues are out of our sports community's control. Taiwan's status as an independent sovereign state would be degraded if the Olympic flame travels to Hong Kong via Taipei, so my authorities request that the relay enter into Taipei and exit Taipei through third-party countries." This letter unilaterally breached the agreement reached by both sides.

In the hope of satisfying Taiwan compatriots' wishes of participating in the Olympic torch relay, BOCOG wrote a letter to Mr Tsai, which says, "The launch of the torch relay route is imminent. The request by your authorities goes against the consensus reached by both sides as well as the route on which you have made a written confirmation, which we cannot understand."

Passing the Olympic flame in Taipei helps spread the Olympic spirit, and it is a great event beneficial to Taiwan compatriots and will create everlasting good. We still hope that the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee will focus on the interests of our Taiwan compatriots, resist political interference and make good the consensus the two parties have reached.

BOCOG believes that the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee and its authorities have violated the Olympic Charter and the IOC's principle of separating sports from politics by rejecting the torch relay route. The Olympic flame is the symbol of Olympic spirit, and the Olympic torch relay is a grand celebration of mankind that represents peace and friendship.

Passing the Olympic flame in Taipei helps spread the Olympic spirit, and it is a great event beneficial to Taiwan compatriots and will create everlasting good. We still hope that the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee and its authorities will focus on the interests of our Taiwan compatriots and the Olympic Movement, and make good the consensus the two parties have reached and the route that has been confirmed. Therefore, the good wishes of our Taiwan compatriots to participate in the Olympic torch relay will come true.

China's benchmark stock index Tuesday hit new highs for the eighth consecutive session on bullish investor confidence, strong growth in corporate earnings, and return of funds after failing to procure new shares.

The Shanghai Composite Index, the most widely watched indicator of the mainland stock market, ended 50.93 points higher at 3,495.22. The index has grown 30.64 percent this year after surging 130 percent last year.

The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks the smaller of the mainland's bourses, gained 1.05 percent to 928.28 while the Shanghai and Shenzhen 300 index of major companies rose 1.28 percent to 3121.14.

The rise came as listed companies posted strong earnings. As of Tuesday, more than 821 firms have released their annual report in 2006, registering an average of 38.18 percent growth in net profit, statistics showed.

China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. better known as Sinopec, Tuesday reported a 30 percent rise in net profit in 2006 on strong domestic fuel demand and weaker crude oil prices.

The net profit of Asia's largest refiner by capacity totaled 53.9 billion yuan ($7 billion) in 2006, up from 41.5 billion yuan in 2005.

The repeated hitting of new highs also found strength from the bullish sentiment of the Chinese investors who threw themselves into lines to open accounts at securities firms.

A record high of 194,513 A-share accounts were opened Tuesday, breaking the record of 188,477 set just the previous day, according to statistics from the China Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation Limited.

Tuesday represented the 22nd day in a row that saw the opening of more than 100,000 accounts. That compared with an average of 4,700 newly added accounts each day in 2005 when the market was in a bearish run.

Tuesday also witnessed the opening of nearly 36,000 fund accounts after an addition of 30,000 on Monday. By 3:00 pm Tuesday, the number of accounts in the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges has topped 88.45 million, according to the statistics.

The stocks were boosted by money returned to investors who failed to obtain shares in five small caps launched last week. A total of 1.024 trillion yuan were frozen, earlier reports said, including 950 billion yuan from retail investors, a record high for the amount of frozen retail investor capital.

Financial share performed well. China Merchant Bank surged 6.28 percent to 19.13 yuan while China Life gained 2.83 percent to 37.17 yuan.

Other big caps also staged strong performance. Sinopec rose 7.1 percent to 11.32 yuan and Huaneng Power International grew 5.47 percent to 10.22 yuan. China Vanke, the country's largest publicly traded property developer, posted a 6.58 percent growth to 18.63 yuan.

Trading in Shanghai also reached a record high of 156.208 billion yuan while turnover in the Shenzhen Stock Exchange stood at 82.512.

China's main stock index rallied to new highs Monday for the fourth consecutive session, extending this year's gains to nearly 20 percent.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closed up 1.58 percent to 3,122.81, the first ever close above the level of 3,100. The index has grown 16.72 percent this year after surging more than 130 percent last year.

The Shenzhen Composite Index ended 2.04 percent higher at 833.57. The Shanghai and Shenzhen 300 Index finished up 1.76 percent at 2,764.03.

Blue chips pushed up the indexes. Ping An Insurance gained 1.73 percent to 45.94 yuan while its peer China Life rose 1.35 percent to 34.46 yuan. The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the country's biggest lender, increased 0.78 percent to 5.19 yuan.

China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation, also known as Sinopec, went up 1.05 percent to 9.60 yuan. Shanghai International Port Group surged 4.64 percent to 8.57 yuan while Baosteel Corp. Ltd. rose 3.19 percent to 9.39 yuan.

A total of 128,047 A-share accounts were opened Friday, the 10th consecutive trading day that saw an addition of more than 100,000 accounts, according to statistics from the China Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation Limited.

That compared with an average of 4,700 newly added accounts each day in 2005 when the market was in a bearish run.

Friday also witnessed the opening of over 45,000 fund accounts after some 130,000 ones were added on March 19.

By 3:00 pm Friday, the number of accounts in the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges has topped 86.2 million, according to the statistics.

Trading was heavy on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges. A total of 12.27 billion shares were traded in Shanghai, at a volume of 109.83 billlion yuan. In Shenzhen, the turnover hit 57.73 billon yuan, with 0.97 billion shares changing hands.

PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Penjualan pada 2007 ditargetkan Rp4,1 triliun, naik sekitar 20% dibanding periode sama tahun lalu sekitar Rp3,5 triliun. Target penjualan tahun ini seiring dengan adanya peningkatan permintaan batu bara. Volume penjualan batu bara perseroan tahun ini diperkirakan mencapai 11 juta ton dibanding tahun lalu 9,64 juta ton. Target ini optimis bisa tercapai apalagi dengan adanya kontribusi pembelian batu bara yang dilakukan oleh PT Bukit Asam Prima, anak usaha perseroan yang dibentuk Februari lalu, khusus bergerak sebagai trader batubara di Kalimantan dan Sumatera. Hingga triwulan I 2007 perseroan telah membukukan laba bersih Rp198,75 miliar, naik 185% dibanding tahun lalu sebesar Rp69,84 miliar. Hal ini seiring dengan naiknya penjualan sekitar 32% menjadi Rp957,44 miliar. Disamping itu Bukit Asam akan membangun PLTU Banko Tengah dengan kapasitas 4x600 MW di Tanjung Enim Sumatera Selatan. Proyek PLTU ini bernilai US$2,18 miliar dengan kepemilikan sebesar 28%, PLN 8%, Indika Inti Energi 8%, dan China Huadian Corp sebesar 55%. Selain itu, proyek PLTU Banjarsari 2x100 MW di Lahat dilakukan melalui PT Bukit Pembangkit Innovati senilai US$241 juta. Proyek ini optimis bisa dicapai tahun 2010 karena progressnya sesuai dengan jadwal. Di Bukit Pembangkit ini perseroan memiliki 41% saham, PT Navigat Innovative Indonesia 39% dan PT Pembangkit Jawa Bali sebesar 20%. Untuk semua pengembangan ini dana akan didapat dari pinjaman Bank karena perseroan belum berencana untuk keluarkan Obligasi. PTBA juga memutuskan untuk membagi dividen tahun buku 2006 sebesar Rp105,39 per saham atau seluruhnya Rp242,835 miliar.

PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BBRI) tetap memilih pelepasan (spin off) untuk membentuk unit usaha syariah baru. Rencananya, proses spin off akan rampung pada September 2007. "BRI tetap pilih spin off. Bank Indonesia (BI) menyerahkan semua kepada bank kuasa. Apalagi dengan keluarnya regulasi BI tentang syariah yang baru, sehingga semuanya sama-sama menguntungkan.

PT Bank Negara Indonesia Tbk (BBNI) memberikan fasilitas kredit sebesar Rp1,43 triliun kepada PT Krakatau Steel (Persero). Kredit yang terdiri dari Rp750 miliar dan USD75 juta digunakan untuk pengembangan industri baja nasional. Fasilitas kredit yang diberikan adalah trust receipt/post financing dengan jangka waktu maksimal enam bulan, surat kredit (letter of credit/LC) impor dan garansi bank. Fasilitas kredit dengan jangka waktu satu tahun ini digunakan untuk pembiayaan bahan baku, bahan pembantu dan suku cadang yang dibeli dari dalam maupun luar negeri. Selain itu digunakan untuk menyelesaikan kontrak/proyek PT Krakatau Steel dan anak perusahaannya. Sedangkan suku bunga kredit yang dikenakan sebesar 13,5% untuk rupiah dan USD sebesar 1,75%.

PT United Tractors Tbk (UNTR) melalui anak perusahaan yang dimiliki sepenuhnya oleh perseroan, yaitu PT Pamapersada Nusantara (Pama) membeli 99 persen kepemilikan saham Dynamics Acres Sdn Bhd (DAS pada sebuah perusahaan pertambangan batubara PT Dasa Eka Jasatama (DEJ) dengan nilai maksimal 19,50 juta dolar AS.

PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk (INDF) telah menetapkan tingkat suku bunga sebesar 10,0125 persen per tahun dalam penerbitan obligasi rupiah Seri IV dengan tingkat bunga tetap, berjangka waktu lima tahun dengan jumlah pokok sebanyak-banyaknya Rp2 triliun.

PT Tempo Scan pacific (TSPC) per maret 2007 alami kenaikan laba bersih 12,83 % menjadi Rp106,93 miliar atau Rp24 per saham dari Rp94,77 miliar atau Rp21 per saham periode tahun sebelumnya. Penjualan bersih naik jadi Rp732,93 miliar dari Rp638,290 miliar dengan laba kotor menjadi Rp307,46 miliar dari Rp271,07 miliar. Beban usaha naik jadi Rp189,64 miliar dari Rp153,80 miliar sehingga laba usaha naik jadi Rp117,81 miliar dari Rp117,26 miliar.

PT Trimegah Sekuritas Tbk (TRIM) kembali akan diakusisi investor asing. Kali ini investor yang berminat adalah Spinnaker Fund yang berdomisili di British Virgin Island. Spinnaker berminat untuk mengakuisisi lebih dari 25 persen saham trimegah dengan harga Rp 215 per saham. Spinnaker juga menyatakan siap melakukan penawaran tender sesuai ketentuan Bapepam."Akusisi ini memiliki tujuan utama untuk memperkuat kinerja bisnis dari Trimegah.

PT Arpeni Pratama Oceanline (APOL) akan membagikan dividen tunai Rp6 per saham pada 18 Juli 2007. Adapun jadwal cum dan ex dividen di pasar reguler dan negosiasi opada 6 dan 9 Juli 2007 sedangkan cum dan ex dividen dipasar tunai pada 11 dan 12 Juli 2007. Yang berhak mendapatkan pemegang saham yang namanya tercantum hingga 11 Juli 2007.

PT Inti Kapuas Arowana (IIKP) bekerjasama PT Central Proteinaprima (CP Prima) melakukan penelitian dan pengembangan ikan hias Arowana `Super Red`. kerjasama ini mencakup penelitian genetik lingkungan penangkaran, penyakit serta pakan Arowana. Dengan kerjasama ini diharapkan dapat menghasilkan temuan untuk peningkatan produktifitas terhadap budidaya ikan Arowana.

PT Panin Sekuritas (PANS) per maret 2007 naik 24,52 % menjadi Rp18,71 miliar atau Rp51,99 per saham dari periode yang sama tahun sebelumnya yang meraih laba Rp15,03 miliar atau Rp41,75 per saham. Laporan keuangan perseroan menyebutkan pendapatan usaha naik menjadi Rp43,89 miliar dari Rp30,47 miliar. Beban usaha tercatat Rp8,15 miliar naik dari Rp6,48 miliar sebelumnya sehingga laba usaha menjadi Rp35,73 miliar dari Rp23,99 miliar.

PT Surya Semesta Internusa (SSIA) berencana membeli sisa saham PT Pacific Prestress Indonesia (PPI) sebesar 2,08 persen milik pemegang saham minoritas. perseroan akan memebeli 50 saham milik pemegang saham minoritas dalam PPI sebesar 2,08 persen

PT Steady Safe (SAFE) per maret 2007 menderita rugi bersih Rp2,23 miliar dari laba bersih Rp941,52 juta pada periode yang sama tahun sebelumnya. Dalam laporan perseroan disebutkan pendapatan bersih turun jadi Rp2,07 miliar dari Rp4,26 miliar dengan beban langsung sebesar Rp4,16 miliar dari Rp4,02 miliar membuat perseroan menderita rugi kotor sebesar Rp2,08 miliar dari laba kotor sebelumnya Rp244,16 juta.

Bank Pembangunan Asia (AD memperkirakan kawasan Asia membutuhkan investasi hingga 6-9 triliun dolar AS hingga 2030 untuk menyediakan akses energi bagi penduduk Asia yang saat ini masih belum memiliki akses.

Bank Indonesia. BI prediksikan deflasi 0,16% pada April 2007 memperlebar ruang gerak untuk kembali menurunkan BI Rate. Chinese stocks nosedived nearly five per cent Thursday amid fears of an interest rate hike to slow down the booming economy and curb inflation.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, the most widely watched indicator of the mainland's stock market, lost 4.52 per cent to end at 3,449.01.

China's gross domestic product surged 11.1 per cent year-on-year, a 0.7 percentage point faster than the same period last year, said Li Xiaochao, spokesman for the National Bureau of Statistics Thursday.

The Consumer Price Index, a barometer of inflation, climbed 3.3 per cent in March, versus a central bank target of three per cent for 2007. That's the highest inflation rate in more than two years. Food stuffs accounted for most of the increase.

The data was originally scheduled for release at 10am Thursday, but was postponed to 3pm after the stock markets closed, fueling speculation that the regulator feared the figures might cause a significant drop in the equity market.

However, Li called the postponement "not a special arrangement' and added there are always ups and downs in the stock market. "That is the charm of stock market," he said.

Meanwhile, the Shenzhen Composite Index fell 4.92 per cent to 960.02, while the Shanghai and Shenzhen 300 Index of major companies went down 4.67 per cent to 3,150.30.

The property sector led the decline, with more than 70 per cent of the stocks falling more than five per cent. China Vanke, the country's biggest publicly traded property developer, declined 7.04 per cent to close at 17.44 yuan per share, while Poly China fell to the daily limit of 10 per cent to 31.49 yuan.

Blue chips continued the downward trend. China Life, the country's biggest life insurer, lost 3.06 per cent to 35.46 yuan following a fall of 3.48 per cent the previous day, while its rival Ping An Insurance slid 3.58 per cent to 51.98 yuan, when it slid down 2.25 per cent on Wednesday.

China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec), Asia's largest refiner, dipped 5.44 per cent to 10.78 yuan, and China United Telecom was also down 5.37 percent to 5.29 yuan.

The declines far outnumbered the advances by a ratio of 15 to 2 in the Shanghai Stock Exchange and by 10 to 1 in Shenzhen.

A risk of an overheated economy

China's GDP totaled 5.03 trillion yuan (US$653 billion) in the first quarter of this year, an increase of 11.1 per cent from the same period last year.

The secondary sector, including manufacturing, mining and construction, posted the fastest year-on-year growth of 13.2 per cent in the January-March period, according to Li.

Fixed-assets investment amounted to 1.75 trillion yuan (US$227.6 billion), up 23.7 per cent. The growth was four percentage points lower than the same period last year.

Retail sales rose 15.3 per cent in the first quarter from 2006, according to Li.

He cited the rapid economic growth was driven by investment, consumption and import and export.

When asked if the Chinese economy is overheated, Li replied it was a comprehensive problem, as the GDP growth indicator alone was not enough to tell if an economy was overheated or not.

But Li warned there is a risk for Chinese economy to evolve from fast growth to overheating.

Inflation accelerating

CPI growth in March is the highest in 25 months after it hit 3.9 per cent in February 2005.

For the first quarter, CPI climbed 2.7 per cent, 1.5 percentage points higher compared with the same period last year, said Li, adding that CPI in March was 0.3 per cent lower compared with February this year.

The Producer Price Index, another indicator of inflation, rose 2.7 per cent in March from the same period in 2006 while the year-on-year growth for the first quarter was 2.7 per cent.

The figures were close to the economists' estimates which have fuelled speculation the central bank might be forced to raise the interest rate as early as May.

Several days after the inflation data was released last month, the central bank raised the benchmark one-year deposit interest rate by 27 basis points to 2.79 per cent.

Besides the anticipated interest rate increase, the People's Bank of China has raised the amount of money lenders must set aside as reserves six times in 10 months and sold bills to reduce cash lending. However, that hasn't cooled lending growth. Banks made 1.4 trillion yuan in new loans in the first quarter of this year, nearly half the total for 2006.

A change in thinking

An interest rate hike could effectively curb the influx of speculative capital, thus deflating the bubble in assets prices, said central bank Vice Governor Hu Xiaolian on April 3.

That was interpreted as a strong signal for another interest rate rise within the year following an increase last month.

It also marked a major shift in the central bank's thinking on the impact of the interest rate on the influx of speculative money.

Previously, the People's Bank of China tried to maintain a three per cent spread between the benchmark interest rates of China and the US for fear that a decrease would result in the increase of more capital into the country, adding to pressure on the yuan to appreciate.

And so the bank was hesitant to hike interest rates. However, the US Federal Reserve ended a series of interest rate rises last August and was expected to lower the rate during the next Federal Open Market Committee meeting next month, making it hard for China to keep the three per cent rate gap.

Moreover, central bank officials began to realize speculative money does not go into deposits as previously thought, but flows highly speculative realty and equity markets.

Another factor is a low interest rate leads to a flood of bank deposits into the equity market, making the market more bullish.

Hu's remark was also noted as a change in the regulator's thoughts on the relationship between interest rate and asset prices.

The central bank paid close attention to asset prices in its decision making, but "asset prices are not the direct basis for monetary policy," said Assistant Governor Yi Gang in February.

An article in the Financial News, sponsored by the central bank, may also reflect a shift in thinking.

The monetary policy should not directly take asset prices as the ultimate goal, but should respond to the changes in assets prices in a correct and timely manner, the newspaper said last Saturday.

According to the article, the central bank will maintain a tight rein on the country's monetary policy, while paying close attention to excess liquidity and asset price.

China's major stock indexes rebounded Friday, recovering part of Thursday's five-per cent loss blamed on the fears of an interest rate hike.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 3.92 per cent to close at 3,584.20 points, while the Shenzhen Composite Index went up 4.57 per cent to 1,003.87. The Shanghai and Shenzhen 300 index of major companies gained 4.41 per cent to 3,289.19.

Financial shares led the comeback, reversing a downward trend in the previous two sessions.

China Life gained 4.03 per cent to end at 36.89 yuan per share compared to a 3.06 per cent drop on Thursday. Its rival Ping An Insurance surged 6.46 per cent to 55.34 yuan, following a 2.25 per cent fall the previous day.

China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) rose 2.78 per cent to 11.08 yuan, and Air China, the country's biggest international airline, soared 7.86 per cent to 8.92 yuan.

Only 10 out of some 1,500 stocks in the Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses reported losses.

The surge came after a fall of nearly five per cent on Thursday, the biggest drop since February 27 when the indexes lost nearly nine per cent, triggering a global sell-off.

Thursday's plummet was attributed to the worries that the central bank will raise interest rates to cool down the economy and curb inflation.

China's gross domestic product grew 11.1 per cent in the first quarter of this year, the National Bureau of Statistics said Thursday.

Meanwhile, the consumer price index, a barometer of inflation, climbed 3.3 per cent in March, the highest in more than two years and above the central bank's target of three per cent, according to the bureau.

PT Indofarma Tbk (INAF) Pasar farmasi nasional yang diperkirakan mulai membaik pada tahun ini, membuat perseroan memproyeksikan pertumbuhan rata-rata penjualannya sebesar 20 persen hingga 2011 mendatang. Proyeksi pertumbuhan pasar farmasi nasional mulai dari 2007 hingga 2011 diperkirakan tumbuh rata-rata sebesar 12 persen. PT Indofarma Tbk berencana ekspansi usaha ke bisnis produk biotech. Hal ini dilakukan dengan menggandeng mitra asing. Selain merenovasi pabrik, kapasitas produksi perseroan juga akan ditingkatkan. Untuk itu, perseroan menganggarkan belanja modal tahun 2007 sebesar Rp40 miliar. Sebagian besar dana itu untuk renovasi pabrik. Dengan langkah di atas, penjualan Indofarma pada 2007 ditargetkan Rp1,33 triliun, naik sekitar 30% dibanding periode tahun lalu sebesar Rp1,03 triliun. Anggaran pemerintah untuk belanja obat naik 50% sehingga target pertumbuhan konservatif. Dengan peningkatan penjualan diharapkan dapat menekan biaya sehingga laba usaha dapat ditingkatkan. Laba sebelum pajak perseroan tahun ini ditargetkan meningkat sekitar 70% dari akhir tahun lalu.

PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA) Rapat Umum Pemegang Saham (RUPS) memutuskan membagi dividen sebesar Rp170 per saham atau Rp2,088 triliun yang merupakan 49,21 persen dari total laba bersih 2006 Rp4,242 triliun. Dividen interim sebesar Rp55 per saham sudah dibagi pada November lalu sehingga sisa dividen Rp115 per saham akan dibagikan kemudian, demikian hasil RUPS perseroan selasa. RUPSLB juga menyetujui rencana pembelian kembali saham perseroan (buy back) tahap kedua. Share buy back sudah disetujui maksimal sebesar 1 persen dari total saham yang diterbitkan hingga 27 April 2007 atau maksimal 123.275.050 saham. Dana buyback saham tersebut maksimal Rp 678,013 miliar. Buy back ini pelaksanaannya menunggu persetujuan dari BI.

PT Bakrie Sumatera Plantantions Tbk (UNSP) memperoleh pinjaman US$15 juta dari RZB Austria untuk pendanaan pabrik biodiesel. Tenor dari pinjaman tersebut selama lima tahun dengan tingkat suku bunga 2,75% di atas LIBOR. Suku bunganya sekitar 7%-8% per tahun. UNSP akan mempertahankan rasio dividen 20% sampai tahun 2012 seiring dengan tuntasnya program penambahan lahan 100.000 hektare. Perseroan menyiapkan belanja modal US$270 juta untuk membiayai penambahan lahan dengan asumsi setiap hektare lahan memerlukan dana US$2.700. Dengan penambahan lahan 100.000 ha, maka pada 2012 BSP diperkirakan akan mengelola lahan 153.000 hektare. Saat ini, BSP sudah memiliki persediaan tanah 65.000 hektare di Kalimantan Tengah, sebanyak 37.500 ha yang akan ditanami kelapa sawit. Disamping itu RUPSLB Bakrie Sumatera Plantantions menyetujui aksi korpoorasi untuk mengakuisisi Sumbertama Nusapertiwi. Perseroan yang kami akuisisi memiliki 7.200 hektare Hak Guna Usaha (HGU) dan memilki 1.500 hektare Plasma. Sumber pembiayaan akuisisi ini berasal dari dana internal perseroan yaitu dari sisa penerbitan obligasi dan dividen atau laba yang ditahan.

PT Mobile-8 Telecom Tbk (FREN) Perseroan menyatakan telah menerima ijin prinsip penyelenggaraan jaringan tetap lokal tanpa kabel dengan mobilitas terbatas dari Menteri Komunikasi dan Informatika (Menkominfo) kepada tiga anak perusahaannya. Ketiga anak perusahaan yang memperoleh ijin prinsip tersebut adalah PT Telekomindo Selular Raya (Telesera), PT Metro Selular Nusantara (Metrosel) dan PT Komunikasi Selular Indonesia (Komselindo). Dengan adanya ijin tersebut, ketiga anak perusahaan perseroan dapat memulai penggelaran jaringan, mengajukan permohonan numbering kepada pemerintah Selain itu, ke tiga anak perusahaan perseroan juga dapat memulai membuat perjanjian kerjasama dengan operator telekomunikasi lainnya dalam rangka penyelenggaraan jaringan tetap lokal tanpa kabel dengan mobilitas terbatas di wilayah-wilayah tertentu sesuai dengan ijin yang dimiliki.

PT Nusantara Infrastructure (META) telah melakukan penandatanganan MoU kerjasama usaha dibidang pengolahan air bersih dengan PT Metito Indonesia. PT Metito merupakan perusahaan terkemuka yang berkantor pusat di Dubai Uni Emirat Arab yang bergerak di bidang pengelolaan air besih dan pengolahan limbah. Kerjasama ini ditunjukan untuk mengembangkan usaha pengolahan air bersih dan limbah di indonesia.

PT Apexindo Pratama Duta (APEX) telah menerima Fax of order (FOO) dari total E & P Indonesie (Total) sebagai konfirmasi atas perpanjangan kontrak untuk Maera rig lepas pantai tipe submersible swampbarge milik perseroan. Perpanjangan kontrak ini untuk periode lima tahun dengan nilai kontrak US$146 juta. Rig Maera merupakan satu dari empat Rig Apexindo yang bekerja membantu Total untuk kegiatan eksplorasi dan produksi di TUnu Kalimantan Timur dan Rig tersebut telah bekerja secara penuh untuk Total sejak 1992.

Economics

Beberapa ekonom menganggap bahwa laporan BPS mengenai pertumbuhan ekonomi Indonesia untuk kuartal I 2007 tidak lagi independen karena dijadikan sebagai alat untuk membuat perekonomian Indonesia terlihat baik. Hal ini melihat dari tingkat kemiskinan dan penganguran yang masih tinggi.

Penjualan ritel China naik di bulan April, karena naiknya pendapatan dan boomingnya pasar saham. Penjualan ritel naik 15,5 persen dibanding periode yang sama tahun sebelumnya menjadi 667,3 miliar yuan ($86,8 miliar) setelah juga naik 15,3 persen di bulan maret, demikian laporan Biro pusat statistik hari selasa ini. Kenaikan ini mengalahkan prediksi 15,1 persen perkiraan para ekonom yang disurvey bloomberg.

Pertumbuhan ekonomi pada triwulan I/ 2007 tercatat sebesar 6% dibandingkan triwulan yang sama 2006 (year on year), atau meningkat 2% dibandingkan triwulan IV/2006. Peningkatan pertumbuhan ekonomi terjadi pada hampir semua sektor, terutama dimotori oleh sektor pertanian, listrik dan air bersih. Sumbangan sektor pertanian terhadap pertumbuhan ekonomi mencapai 16,8% karena faktor musim dan terjadi panen Perekonomian Indonesia yang diukur berdasarkan besaran Produk Domestik Bruto (PD atas dasar harga berlaku pada triwulan I/2007 mencapai Rp915,9 triliun. Sedangkan PDB atas dasar harga konstan 2000 tercatat Rp475 triliun. Pengeluaran konsumsi rumah tangga pada triwulan I/2007 dibanding triwulan IV/2006 secara riil menurun sebesar minus 0,5%. Pengeluaran konsumsi pemerintah menurun sebesar minus 31,1% sementara pembentukan modal tetap bruto turun sebesar minus 2,5%, ekspor barang dan jasa turun sebesar minus 0,1% dan komponen barang dan jasa turun sebesar minus 1,4%.

PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Kementerian Badan Usaha Milik Negara (BUMN) memastikan penawaran saham perdana (IPO) PT Jasa Marga pada akhir Juli 2007. Jumlah saham yang akan ditawarkan sekitar 30% dari modal disetor BUMn pengelola jalan tol tersebut. Kementerian BUMN menunjuk konsorsium Danareksa dan Bahana bertindak sebagai penjamin emisi saham perdana Jasa Marga. Konsorsium Danareksa terdiri dari Mandiri Sekuritas dan USB Securities Indnesia, sedangkan konsorsium Bahana beranggotakan Credit Suisse, Citigroup dan Deutsche Securities Indonesia. Diperkirakan dana hasil IPO mencapai Rp 2,5 triliun yang diantaranya 70% akan dipergunakan membiayai proyek-proyek jalan tol

PT Sampoerna Agro berencana melepas 419,5 juta lembar saham atau 22,7 persen dari total sahamnya melalui mekanisme penawaran saham perdana (initial public offering/IPO). Harga yang ditawarkan akan ditentukan kemudian namun periode masa penawaran berlaku dari 12 sampai 14 Juni mendatang dan pencatatan di Bursa Efek Jakarta (BEJ) pada 20 Juni 2007. Bertindak sebagai penjamin emisi (underwriter) saham adalah PT Danareksa Sekuritas. Sekitar 60 persen dari dana hasil emisi saham pluas sumber dana lainnya akan digunakan untuk pembayaran utang senilai US$100 juta kepada Credit Suisse, 35 persen dipakai buat ekspansi dan sisanya modal kerja.

PT Media Nusantara Citra (MNC) akan melepas 30 persen (4.125.000.000 lbr) sahamnya, yang terdiri dari 20 persen (2.750.000.000 lbr) saham lama atau primary shares dan sisanya 10 persen (1.375.000.000 lbr) merupakan saham baru atau secondary shares. Untuk pelaksanaan IPO kali ini, MNC menunjuk Danareksa Securities, dan Bhakti Securities (aviliated) sebagai joint lead underwriter, sementara untuk independent auditor dipercayakan pada Osman Ramli Satrio dan Rekan. Sebelumnya MNC mendaftarakan rencana IPO pada 20 April 2007 lalu, sedangkan listing di BEJ rencananya akan dilakukan pada 15 Juni 2007. MNC merupakan induk perusahaan dari beberapa broadcast media yang terdiri dari RCTI (100%), Global TV (100%) serta TPI (75%). Sedangkan print media atau media cetak, yakni PT MNI (100%) yang menaungi suratkabar Seputar Indonesia, MNI Global (100%), terdiri dari tabloid Genie, Mom & Kiddie, serta tabloid Realita. Baru-baru ini MNC juga baru meluncurkan portal atau media online yakni okezone.com. Sedangkan untuk jaringan radio yakni MNC Network (95%) yang terdiri dari Trijaya Network, Radio Dangdut TPI, ARH Global, serta Woman Radio

PT Astra Otoparts (AUTO) meningkatkan kepemilikan sahamnya di PT Anugerah Paramitra Motorpart yang berkedudukan di Denpasar. Sebelumnya Perseroan hanya memiliki 60 % saham di Paramitra dan kini menguasai 99,9 % atau menjadi 1.799 saham dari 1.080 saham. Kepemilikan itu meningkat setelah perseroan membeli 720 saham milik Hadi irawan yang dibeli Rp500.000 per saham dengan total pembelian Rp359,500.000.

PT Indofarma Tbk (INAF) Pasar farmasi nasional yang diperkirakan mulai membaik pada tahun ini, membuat perseroan memproyeksikan pertumbuhan rata-rata penjualannya sebesar 20 persen hingga 2011 mendatang. Proyeksi pertumbuhan pasar farmasi nasional mulai dari 2007 hingga 2011 diperkirakan tumbuh rata-rata sebesar 12 persen. PT Indofarma Tbk berencana ekspansi usaha ke bisnis produk biotech. Hal ini dilakukan dengan menggandeng mitra asing. Selain merenovasi pabrik, kapasitas produksi perseroan juga akan ditingkatkan. Untuk itu, perseroan menganggarkan belanja modal tahun 2007 sebesar Rp40 miliar. Sebagian besar dana itu untuk renovasi pabrik. Dengan langkah di atas, penjualan Indofarma pada 2007 ditargetkan Rp1,33 triliun, naik sekitar 30% dibanding periode tahun lalu sebesar Rp1,03 triliun. Anggaran pemerintah untuk belanja obat naik 50% sehingga target pertumbuhan konservatif. Dengan peningkatan penjualan diharapkan dapat menekan biaya sehingga laba usaha dapat ditingkatkan. Laba sebelum pajak perseroan tahun ini ditargetkan meningkat sekitar 70% dari akhir tahun lalu.

PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA) Rapat Umum Pemegang Saham (RUPS) memutuskan membagi dividen sebesar Rp170 per saham atau Rp2,088 triliun yang merupakan 49,21 persen dari total laba bersih 2006 Rp4,242 triliun. Dividen interim sebesar Rp55 per saham sudah dibagi pada November lalu sehingga sisa dividen Rp115 per saham akan dibagikan kemudian, demikian hasil RUPS perseroan selasa. RUPSLB juga menyetujui rencana pembelian kembali saham perseroan (buy back) tahap kedua. Share buy back sudah disetujui maksimal sebesar 1 persen dari total saham yang diterbitkan hingga 27 April 2007 atau maksimal 123.275.050 saham. Dana buyback saham tersebut maksimal Rp 678,013 miliar. Buy back ini pelaksanaannya menunggu persetujuan dari BI.

PT Bakrie Sumatera Plantantions Tbk (UNSP) memperoleh pinjaman US$15 juta dari RZB Austria untuk pendanaan pabrik biodiesel. Tenor dari pinjaman tersebut selama lima tahun dengan tingkat suku bunga 2,75% di atas LIBOR. Suku bunganya sekitar 7%-8% per tahun. UNSP akan mempertahankan rasio dividen 20% sampai tahun 2012 seiring dengan tuntasnya program penambahan lahan 100.000 hektare. Perseroan menyiapkan belanja modal US$270 juta untuk membiayai penambahan lahan dengan asumsi setiap hektare lahan memerlukan dana US$2.700. Dengan penambahan lahan 100.000 ha, maka pada 2012 BSP diperkirakan akan mengelola lahan 153.000 hektare. Saat ini, BSP sudah memiliki persediaan tanah 65.000 hektare di Kalimantan Tengah, sebanyak 37.500 ha yang akan ditanami kelapa sawit. Disamping itu RUPSLB Bakrie Sumatera Plantantions menyetujui aksi korpoorasi untuk mengakuisisi Sumbertama Nusapertiwi. Perseroan yang kami akuisisi memiliki 7.200 hektare Hak Guna Usaha (HGU) dan memilki 1.500 hektare Plasma. Sumber pembiayaan akuisisi ini berasal dari dana internal perseroan yaitu dari sisa penerbitan obligasi dan dividen atau laba yang ditahan.

PT Mobile-8 Telecom Tbk (FREN) Perseroan menyatakan telah menerima ijin prinsip penyelenggaraan jaringan tetap lokal tanpa kabel dengan mobilitas terbatas dari Menteri Komunikasi dan Informatika (Menkominfo) kepada tiga anak perusahaannya. Ketiga anak perusahaan yang memperoleh ijin prinsip tersebut adalah PT Telekomindo Selular Raya (Telesera), PT Metro Selular Nusantara (Metrosel) dan PT Komunikasi Selular Indonesia (Komselindo). Dengan adanya ijin tersebut, ketiga anak perusahaan perseroan dapat memulai penggelaran jaringan, mengajukan permohonan numbering kepada pemerintah Selain itu, ke tiga anak perusahaan perseroan juga dapat memulai membuat perjanjian kerjasama dengan operator telekomunikasi lainnya dalam rangka penyelenggaraan jaringan tetap lokal tanpa kabel dengan mobilitas terbatas di wilayah-wilayah tertentu sesuai dengan ijin yang dimiliki.

PT Nusantara Infrastructure (META) telah melakukan penandatanganan MoU kerjasama usaha dibidang pengolahan air bersih dengan PT Metito Indonesia. PT Metito merupakan perusahaan terkemuka yang berkantor pusat di Dubai Uni Emirat Arab yang bergerak di bidang pengelolaan air besih dan pengolahan limbah. Kerjasama ini ditunjukan untuk mengembangkan usaha pengolahan air bersih dan limbah di indonesia.

PT Apexindo Pratama Duta (APEX) telah menerima Fax of order (FOO) dari total E & P Indonesie (Total) sebagai konfirmasi atas perpanjangan kontrak untuk Maera rig lepas pantai tipe submersible swampbarge milik perseroan. Perpanjangan kontrak ini untuk periode lima tahun dengan nilai kontrak US$146 juta. Rig Maera merupakan satu dari empat Rig Apexindo yang bekerja membantu Total untuk kegiatan eksplorasi dan produksi di TUnu Kalimantan Timur dan Rig tersebut telah bekerja secara penuh untuk Total sejak 1992.

The deposit reserve ratio for depository financial institutions will be raised by 0.5 percentage point to 11 percent starting on May 15, the People's Bank of China said in a statement on its website.

"The increase is aimed at stepping up liquidity management of the banking system and to guide a reasonable growth of credit," said the statement.

That marked the seventh hike in less than a year in addition to three interest rate increases as regulators try to prevent the economy from overheating.

China's economy surged 11.1 percent in the first quarter of this year after growing 10.7 percent in 2006, as shown in official statistics.

Meanwhile, fixed-asset investment countrywide grew a robust 23.7 percent during March, while the consumer price index (CPI), a key indicator of inflation, rose 3.3 percent last month, above the government's three percent target.

In the first quarter, China's commercial banks posted a 16.25 percent growth in loans, up 1.52 percent from the same period last year.

Reserve ratio might be raised to 15 percent

The latest move by the central bank indicates it is more concerned about excessive liquidity than inflation, said Shen Minggao, an economist with Citigroup in Beijing.

Zhong Wei, a professor with Beijing Normal University comments that raising the reserve ratio is the best choice for absorbing liquidity and controlling the banks' credit scale.

"The ratio might be raised to 15 percent at the year end," he predicted. But this policy can't sustain, as it will hurt the long-term operation of commercial banks, Zhong added.

As for the short-term influence on banks, Cheng Qingwei of China Citic Securities said the small banks will be more affected than larger ones.

Pressure for interest rate rise remains

Shen of Citigroup expected a higher possibility of an interest rate increase in the second quarter.

"Actually, inflation is not a big problem," explained Shen, adding the motive for an interest rate hike lies in the fact that the real interest rate is negative, promoting the flow of capital into the equity market and leading to asset bubbles.

China's benchmark one-year deposit rate now stands at 2.79 percent and interest income in the country is subject to a 20 percent tax. The inflation hit 3.3 in March.

However, Gao Shanwen, chief economist with Anxin Securities opposed to an interest rate hike.

"The data on CPI, PPI (producer price index) and investment are all within the acceptable range," said Gao, adding the CPI growth fueled by the food price increase is only a transitional phenomenon.

He expected inflation to continue to rise in the second quarter, and then start to fall from July onwards.

However, he admitted the pressure for an interest rate hike at the end of June still exist as the time lag effect in previous policies would keep the investment figure in the second quarter at a high level.

Influence on stock market is limited

"But any hike will have limited influence on the asset prices and the flow of bank deposits into the equity market will continue," said Gao.

He Qiang from the Central University of Finance and Economics and Zhu Jianfen, former chief macro economist of China Securities Co., Ltd shared Gao's opinion.

He expects the market to open lower before rising again on Monday. However, he warned of a correction when the market which has grown 40 percent so far this year, continue to climb. And he suggested investors should find the right time to lock in profit and exit the market.

Meanwhile, Zhu noted the reserve ratio hike is a mild control mechanism, compared with an interest rate increase, especially during the current sensitive period leading to the May Day holiday. There has been speculation in the market that the central bank may raise the interest rate before, during or soon after the holiday.

The influence of the new policy on the stock market is limited and the negative effect could be neglected, added Zhu.

permintaan maaf kepada kedua orang tuanya di Medan, ditemukan di kamar itu.

"Sejak lulus dari ITB tahun 2006, ia belum juga mendapat pekerjaan.
Padahal sudah banyak lamaran dikirim ke perusahaan. Ia sempat mengeluh
karena susah mencari kerja," kata Dani, tetangga kos korban

Mayat bujangan bertubuh atletis ini pertama kali ditemukan
Ny.Sumintari, 45, pemilik kamar kos yang juga masih kerabatnya pada Senin (7/5)
malam. Ia curiga Husni tidak keluar kamar lebih dari tiga hari dan dari
kamar kos timbul bau busuk.

Setelah memberitahu pengurus RT dan tetangga, warga kemudian
bersama-sama membuka pintu dengan kunci serep. Alangkah terjeutnya mereka
mendapati tubuh kaku Husni tergantung dengan lidah menjulur.

Meski belum bekerja ia memiliki uang cukup besar yang dikirim dari
orang tua dan kakaknya yang bekerja di Malaysia. "Tabungan korban sebelas
bulan lalu mencapai Rp 45 juta. Kini tinggal Rp 2 juta karena dipakai
untuk memenuhi kebutuhan hidup sehari-hari," kata Sumintari.

Sumintari menuturkan, sudah tiga bulan ini orang tua korban yang
tinggal di Medan merasa khawatir karena M.Husni tidak juga memberi khabar.
Bahkan ibunya mengirim surat yang langsung diberikan kepadanya beberapa
hari lalu. "Ternyata ia malah gantung diri," katanya.

Kapolsek Kebayoran Lama, Kompol M.Priyono menuturkan, pihaknya sudah
menghubungi keluarga korban di Medan. "Kami masih menyelidiki kasus ini.
Kemungkinan besar korban gantung diri diduga stres karena belum
bekerja," ujarnya.
